I Think Uncle Cracker is an insult to country music. He sings with Willie Nelson and Kenny Chesney and makes them look bad. I like Willie and Kenny. But here you have Uncle cracker, he sings of nothing that represents morals, his first song was about him telling a married woman to leave her husband for him. What is the opinion of the members of Tab Country?

He's great at both but in todays world he can't be both.

That is true. But when you think about it, doesn't most country represent morals. When he sings there aren't any morals involved.

I love his voice, but don't listen to his music because of his lyrics.

Uncle Kracker should never be in country, if we want our country music to stay country, we wouldnt let "fakes" like him come into our "world" of country music, he should stay in his "world" of soft rock or w/e he sings
Uncle Kracker is horrible. I'm not even sure what style music he sings. I saw him when he toured with Kenny Chesney. I am going to see Montgomery Gentry in July( i have 7th row seats..YES) He will also be with MG. MG has also invited Shooter Jennings, why Kracker i don't get it!

I really like Kenny Chesney and I like the song When The Sun Goes Down, but it would have been just as good if not better without Uncle Kracker in it!

I like Uncle Cracker. He really isn't country he is Southern Rock. I don't think we can get on a guy about a song that speaks about leaving a spouse, c'mon how many country songs speak to this kinda thing? There are quite a few racey country songs out there, mostly about women just being sex objects.. so please.

So I have a question. How do you justify the statement "he makes them look bad."? Ever since "When The Sun Goes Down" came out I have never heard a single negative comment about Uncle Kracker singing that song with Kenny. I mean, if have listened to the country news lately, Kenny Chesney is doing absolutely fine for himself. After that song was released, his success rate didn't go down at all just because he chose Uncle Kracker instead of somone else. I don't see how Uncle Kracker sining a duo with him has made Kenny, or any other country star, look bad. I see that statement as inexcusable and unjustifiable. What grounds do you defend it on?

ya know, you've got a point there. there are a lot of songs in the country world about men objectifying women, and women objectifying men. not that its right, but that just so happens to be what the songwriters sometimes choose as their subject matter.
so you say Uncle Kracker's style is southern rock. it must be some cracked up southern rock cuz i've ssen several of his albums that had parental advisories on them. not that im against music with parental advisories, but on southern rock? thats just sad right there. i havent heard much southern rock, but i don't think its supposed to be that way. i seriously dont think that uncle kracker should be in country music, his name, style, and country music just dont match up.

I have a couple of his CD's and have read the lyrics (as you can miss subleties if you just listen) and I have only found 2 bad words, and it was not that bad he says the "a" word twice. That is enough to put if over. So, I don't know. I mostly perform country as it is the best genre for me, but I listen to everything (yes even some rap... I don't like anything that is foul though). I have always been a huge fan of southern rock (.38 Special,Lynyrd Skynyrd,ZZ Top). The fact that certian major country recording artists have chosen him to sing and play with him, says alot for his talent, I believe.
I don't judge any music or any artist until I have heard several of their songs, and even then I usually give the a second listen if they come out with other material.

Good point, MBG. Unless all the other artists just perform with him to make themselves sound good.

I could list a hundred country songs without morals. Uncle Kraker sang a fun song with Chesney and it didn't hurt anything. No different than Sheryl Crowe, Kid Rock, or Jimmy Buffet pretending to be country for a while. They are just having fun being "artists". Have you ever listened to the words to "The Fireman" by George Strait. While his "buddy" is out he takes care of the guys girl. Now that is pretty moral now isnt it???? How about Tim McGraw and Nelly? The list goes on and on. It is all for fun and personally I don't think any of the songs sang by the above non-country artists sounded that bad.

How about Tim McGraw and Nelly?
what i dont understand about that is that in the song "back when" by tim mcgraw he says "they put pop in my country" but what did he put in rap?? country!!

Personally I think Uncle Kracker isn't an insult to country. He did one song with Kenny Chesney a great country singer. The people who i feel are a insults are people such as Keith Urban, Rascall Flatts, and the other country imitators. Yes they have talent, but what happened to all the real country singers? Chris LeDoux for example was a real cowboy a real country singer. George Strait, Trace Adkins, Toby Keith and others are real country singers. Rascall Flatts remind me of NSYNC, a boyband. Alabama and Little Texas are the real "bands" that play or played country! I have had to dig deep into record stores to find real country, like Reckless Kelly, Chris Knight, Jason Boland, Bleu Edmonson,Cross Canadian Ragweed, and Kevin Fowler. Except for CCR and Kevin Fowler those guys aren't very well know but they can sing, and best of all they sing REAL Country.

Sorry folks I'm new here, but.... never had a problem with changing my radio stations or not buying a cd. If the artist decides to record with another one then I really don't care because that is their decision, for good or bad. My decision if I listen to it. Now as people we can't all have the same opinions on this discussion and on the music we listen to. Myself as a fan of music (period), I try to appreciate and not condemn anyone for expressing themselves. Uncle Kracker has expressed himself in his music and has gained fame and fortune. I play music. I play music from Hank Sr. to Ozzy. From Freddie Fender to GAP band. Old blues and Rock and everything in between. And yes, Kenny Chesney to Uncle Kracker. I guess that makes me an insult to all music. Here's an idea, maybe they appreciate all types of music too. I really believe that Mr. Chesney grew up playing some rock and then settled into his country groove. As far as morals in music.... where? Country is derived from the blues (as with rock). Where would blues be with morals. Old and new country is full of who's doing who wrong. again. How many "love" songs can you think of off the top of your head. How many cheating/leaving songs. Let's quit wasting so much energy with the hate toward certain "artists" and show some love. Do something costructive and learn a new song. Better yet... tab a song that is not here on this site and send it in. Now everyone sing along with me. Sing.....Sing a song......Important Notice: The opinions in this reply are not necessarily the views of this computer. I as the computer reserve all right to form my own opinion on the subject matter. Thank you and good bye.

Hi imcountry :)
There a plenty of artist out there I don't like because of the message. "Uncle"
is okay songs with bad language I just skip. I am more bothered by things like the sexually explisit Dukes of Hazzard garbage that is out now. And Willie Nelson has just become a dirty old man. YUCK!

I hate Unckle Kracker. He tries to fit in with country music by singing with Kenny and everyone else. I think he should go back to his soft rock music and leave us diehards alone.

He isn't trying to fit anything, he is Southern Rock and he has not tried to be anything but (not soft rock that is ridiculas!!!)...people like Kenny and everyone else are asking HIM to sing with them. Not the other way round. If you have a problem it should be with them trying to be something other than country.

The Bottom line is, We are all different in ways that, I'd like to think make us perfect in our own special ways.
The Original Question was, "Is Uncle Cracker an insult to country?"
and the only answer can be that He is NOT an insult to country,,, as we all know many Country artists have used strong/harsh insulting lyrics as well and we usually just brush it off somehow without letting it alter our lives in any way whatsoever and then that same country Artists will Record another hit and most of us cant wait to get into a store to get it on CD..
Uncle Kracker is already a well known very talented musician and well liked in his genre, I think if people give him or any other artist a little room to grow into the Country Groove he'll be an asset to the genre. Another example is KidRock HE's a TOUGH ole hardcore sorta outlaw but i know without a doubt if he's given the room to grow with Country he'd be a longtime favortie of many country fans.
Elvis Presley is another good example,,, Elvis was a good strong Christian not insulting at all but in my oppinion he wasnt even close to being a country artist but he's in the Country Hall Of Fame,, Voted in by Country Legends...
oh well just my thoughts on the question at hand...

i know what youre sayin man but dont just diss uncle cracker, look at LYNNYRD SKYNNYRD, JOHNNY CASH, shania twain, they all played country but could also be played on rock(cash and skynnyrd) or pop(shania twain). i think artists have to just play what they feel and if it goes out of your usual style so what. music isn't a bunch of rules you have to follow, its your heart and soul with a guitar in your hand.

But there are boundaries between country and rock, r&b, etc. i think artists have to just play what they feel and if it goes out of your usual style so what. music isn't a bunch of rules you have to follow, its your heart and soul with a guitar in your hand.

i am personally not a fan of uncle cracker but he is a musician and other country singers are asking him to sing with them. the only insult i have with country music is the whole FUTK deal with the dixie chicks. that was an insult to country music and they did it without song. it really put a damper on the good ol' south and southern hospitality, and everything is laid back and better in the south. i just think that was a little immature.
