Capo???

I have been recieving guitar lessons for about 4 weeks now; however, I've had my guitar for 9 months. My instructor told me to get some easy tabs to some of my favorite songs. In my search I have found that some songs require a capo, but I have no idea what a capo is!!!! :confused: i know this my sound lame, but I'm sorry. Please help me understand.
