If There Was A Way
Sung & Written by Dwight Yoakam
Album: If There Was A Way (1990) & dwightyoakamacoustic.net (1999)
Transcribed by: Adam Bell -- ajbell2@unity.ncsu.edu
This is one of my favorite songs, off one of my favorites albums,
by one of my absolute favorite artists.
These are the lyrics from the LP If there Was A Way. The performance that
Dwight does for acoustic.net has a different last verse. On the acoustic.net
album he performs it with a 5/6 time arppegio through most of the song.
[D] I was just [G] standing
Alone in this [Em] room.
Surrounded my [G] memories
We stopped making too [Em] soon.
Oh, I was just [C] standing
I was just [D] standing,
Alone in this [Em] room,
Alone in this [G] room.
I was just thinking
All to myself.
How I still want you
and nobody else.
Oh, I was just thinking,
I was just thinking,
All to myself,
All to myself,
[C] In this darkness I move [G] slowly,
[C] Always struggling to be [G] free.
[Am] But I still hear your voice,
[C] And everywhere I see you the choice
That [Am] made such a [C] fool of [D7] me.
I was just wondering,
If there was a way.
Bringing back to me
Pretty things I could say.
Oh I was just wondering,
I was just wondering,
If there was a way.
