We're All In This Thing Together
By Old Crow Medicine Show
Capo 2
C E7 F C
Well my friends, I see your face so clearly
Am G
Little bit tired, little worn through the years
C E7 F C
You sound nervous, you seem alone
Am G F
I hardly recognize your voice on the telephone
In between I remember
Just before bound-up, broken-down
We drive out to the edge of the highway
Follow that lonesome dead-end roadside south
Chorus:
C E7 F C
We're all in this thing together
Am G
Walkin' the line between faith and fear
C E7 F
This life don't last forever
Am G
When you cry I taste the salt in your tears
Well my friend, let's put this thing together
And walk the path with worn out feet of trial
'Cause if you wanted we can go home forever
Give up your jaded ways, spell your name to God
Chorus
All the hour there's a picture in a mirror
Fancy shoes to grace our feet
All there is is a slow road to freedom
Heaven above and the devil beneath
Chorus

Not bad, just a couple of corrections (from listening to Dave Rawlins and Gillian Welch accompanied by OCMS on Prarie Home Companion):
Chords: Maybe resolve the F to a C for 2 beats at end of third line of Chorus (same as at end of first line. Also at end of 4th line... resolve the G to a C on the word "tears".
Words: Verse 1: Well my friend (singular)
Verse 2 : "worn out feet have trod" (rhymes with God)
If you want we can go on forever.
Verse 4: All we are is a picture in a mirror |
| jamied - 2005-08-29 | Has Gillian Welch recorded this song and on which CD?
(I heard her and David Rawlings perform it with Old Crow Medicine Show on Prairie Home Companion)
Also, this is the only place I was able to find the lyrics, and I did dozens of searches, curious
as to why that might be. |
| swellbow - 2005-10-07 | Hi, Thanks for putting down the tab. I also heard this on Prairie Home Companion and was captured by the words and melody. It's not a Gillian Welch song, jamied, but just an Old Crow Medicine Show song that Gillian and David guested on.
I agree with Richard that the F should resolve to a C on the second line of the chorus. However, I do believe that at the end of the chorus, on the word "tears" the chord should resolve to an F, not a C. That part of the song seemed to be the most crucial to me, so I wanted to mention it. |
| swellbow - 2005-10-07 | Sorry, I should have written:
"I agree with Richard that the F should resolve to a C on the THIRD line of the chorus."
My fault. |

I would though change the E7 to just E major....doesn't sound quite right with the E7 |
