I'm afraid this is close, but not it. As you climb that Am, there is a small, but difficult bend that occurs that makes it sound accurate or not. If you listen to the song, in the opening chord, it rings out, then the lead guitar has a small, whiny bend. I've been trying to nail it for two days and I believe it might be 2nd fret on the B string (I know...ouch), then resting on the 1st fret before doing the AACCBBG (2nd part of the riff).

I just saw Dwight live Sunday night and noticed new guitarist Eddie Perez does a lot of bends in the very low fret registers. That man must have some strong hands.

That lick in "Blame The Vain" is done with a B-bender. There is no way to do it right without it. That is what Keith Gattis used on the record and what Eddie Perez uses on stage. It's just the am chord with the string being pulled all the way (full step) when you strike it, then slowly let go while keeping the chord intact. So the C note (1st fret on the b string) is being pulled to a D. The new Dwight album is saturated with bender licks. For an inexpensive b-bender without cutting up your guitar, try a hipshot like I have. It works great.
